Profile

Thirty years inside the industry, not observing it from outside.

Guatemalan physician with thirty years in the pharmaceutical industry across six companies in Latin America, and an active clinical practice. The path explains the judgement: the medical strategy I recommend was formed in execution, not in a manual.

01Training

From the hospital ward to the evidence.

Internship at Universidad de San Carlos de Guatemala and residency at Hospital Roosevelt, the most demanding school in the Guatemalan public system. Registered with the Colegio de Médicos de Guatemala.

Later, a master's degree in Diabetes and Metabolic Syndrome at Universidad Francisco Marroquín, plus cross-functional training in Regulatory Affairs, Marketing and Pharmacovigilance. That combination is uncommon: it allows a clinical conversation and a business conversation without switching languages.

02Industry

Six companies, an entire region.

Novartis, Merck, Procter & Gamble, Roemmers, Panalab and Rowe, among others, in medical direction, medical management and scientific research roles. Coverage of Mexico, Central America, South America and the Caribbean, with international exposure in the United States, Germany and Switzerland.

More than 100 medical projects, more than 25 product launches, portfolios of more than 50 brands managed across prescription and over-the-counter, and strategic medical advice for more than 20 new products, across cardiometabolic, dermatological, neurological, central nervous system and over-the-counter categories.

03Clinical research

Bringing global research to the region.

At Novartis the work included introducing the company's global clinical research to Latin America: connecting protocols designed in another context with sites, investigators and the operational reality of the region, and holding the scientific standard through that transfer.

That work left a conviction that still holds: global evidence is worth little if nobody translates it to local conditions of practice, access and regulation.

04Recognition

Two international awards and five journals.

Two international awards for medical excellence, for contributions to Medical Affairs at Merck and at Roemmers Central America, in product lifecycle management and clinical excellence.

Editor of five scientific journals and specialised sites, certified trainer, and more than 3,000 medical and promotional materials developed and reviewed. Training methodologies established for more than 500 medical representatives and more than 500 sales and management teams, across more than 15 companies.

05Clinical practice

I still see patients.

Active practice at DiabetCentro, Guatemala City. It is the reason the medical strategy, materials and training I develop hold up in real practice and not only in the literature.

A consultant who left the consulting room fifteen years ago recommends from memory. I recommend from last week.
